Marcy MP6000 Smith Machine or Marcy SM4000 Smith Machine?

Either of these two machines provide you with one of the best pieces of home gym equipment on the market. Both are solid good quality pieces of kit that can help you build muscle safely without a spotter. At around the £500-600 mark nothing really comes close to these two smith machines in terms of quality, functionality and performance. The exercises that can be performed on each machine are identical. The SM6000 smith machine has the added benefit of having linear bearings instead of nylon bushings. This makes the bar movement a little smoother on the Marcy SM6000 and means the bar has less lateral play, keeping both left and right sides at a more level height during exercise. The benches are almost identical in terms of functionality, however the SM6000 bench is easier to adjust into position. The key decision when you buy either of these machines is do you prefer the bench on the SM6000, and do you want linear bearings or nylon bushings on your bar? 9/10 linear bearings are the preferred system. If budget is a key issue then forget both these machines and take a look at the Gym Gear XS4000 Smith machine, almost identical to the SM4000.
